Advice For My Son

My son, listen, always strive to be unique
To be valiant, understanding, the traits sought for in a king.
Be courageous, be vigilant, uplift others when they're weak,
Honor all men, and love, be gentle with your queen.

Be her comfort, her strength, her lover, her friend
Cuddle, laugh, remain true to her to the end.
If ever she feels inadequate, or lost along the way.
Embrace her and reassure her, it will all be okay

Strive to be a model, for the generation arising today;
Show them a life of pride, how to balance work and play.
Don't raise your sons in poverty. No, give them the good life;
Show them how to live gracefully, a life free from strife

Don't strive to be the next Jay-Z, Nas, or the next Lil Wayne
Because even with fame, life still sends you pain.
Strive to be Godly, a man free from scandal and shame.
Yes, be different, virtuous, a man with a good name.

Take a look at my past, see me in all those dark nights,
Striving to make ends meet, striving to keep on the lights;
I must say, looking back, even I'm amazed,
Because in spite of it all, my faith remains, as if it were never phased

My heart is still pure, my mind is still clear
And even with my riches, I have nothing to fear.
Because I stand out from the crowd, I am of a different breed
I am kind, soft spoken, yes a gentleman indeed

But it's not just me, No, there is a treasure deep within
Yes, it's my Savior, He's become my closest friend.
He is the true God, He died and rose again.
Yes, His name is Jesus and He has freed me from my sins.

This is my secret, it keeps me calm in times of stress
Because, even in my inadequacies,
He has helped me perform at my best.
